Primer and new tile installation layers over old tiles

Tile & Cladding Systems

New Tiles over Old Tiles System

Shows the primer, flexible adhesive, levelling and grout system for installing new tiles without removing existing sound tiles.

System summary

  1. Inspection and cleaning of existing tiles
  2. KR-7500
  3. KR-8000 or KR-8500
  4. KR-ST levelling if required
  5. grout suited to the area of use.

A controlled renovation system that reduces demolition work

When tiling over old tiles, the most critical issue is whether the existing cladding is load-bearing and provides sufficient adhesion for the new system. The surface is prepared with KR-7500, the new cladding is installed with an S1-class KraftBau adhesive and the system is completed with a grout suited to the area of use.

System advantages

  • Renovation without removing the existing cladding
  • Filled bonding primer for low-absorption surfaces
  • Grey and white S1 adhesive options
  • Level control with clips and wedges for large formats

Application

How does the system work?

Steps are listed in application order. For consumption, layer thickness and waiting times, refer to the products' current technical data sheets (TDS).

  1. Step 1: Inspect the old tiles

Make sure the existing cladding is firmly bonded to the substrate. Completely remove grease, dirt, soap residue and any layers that reduce adhesion.

  2. Step 2: Apply the bonding primer

Apply KR-7500 TECHNO KRAFT FILLED PRIMER to the clean and sound old tile surface.

  3. Step 3: Bond the new cladding

Install the new cladding with KR-8000 in the grey system, or KR-8500 in the light-coloured or white system.

  4. Step 4: Control the level for large formats

Where required, use KR-ST clips and wedges to control the level difference between adjacent tiles.

  5. Step 5: Select the grout suited to the area of use

Complete the system with KR-200 in dry areas, KR-250 in wet areas and KR-300 in areas with technical or high chemical loads.

Products

Recommended KraftBau products

KR-7500 is the bonding primer of the renovation system. The main grey adhesive is KR-8000, and the alternative for light-coloured tiles is KR-8500. For large formats, KR-ST clips and wedges are used; KR-200 is shown for dry areas, KR-250 for wet areas and KR-300 for technical or high chemical loads.
