Flexible tile adhesive system over an underfloor-heated screed

Flooring & Industrial Systems

Tile System on Underfloor-Heated Floors

Shows the S1 or S2 adhesive that accommodates temperature changes on underfloor-heated floors, together with the grout system suited to the area of use.

System summary

  1. Heated screed and commissioning check
  2. S1 adhesive, or S2 for large formats
  3. tiling
  4. suitable grout and movement joints.

Absorb thermal movement with a flexible adhesive system

A heated screed undergoes dimensional movement during heating and cooling cycles. The tiling system must therefore be built by evaluating the screed's suitability, the heating protocol, the flexible adhesive and the movement joints together.

System advantages

  • Main S1 and premium S2 options
  • Grey and white adhesive alternatives
  • Grout selection for dry, wet and technical areas

Application

How does the system work?

Steps are listed in application order. For consumption, layer thickness and waiting times, refer to the products' current technical data sheets (TDS).

  1. Step 1: Verify the heated screed

Check that the screed has reached sufficient strength and moisture level and that cracks and surface defects have been remedied. Complete the heating protocol according to the project requirements.

  2. Step 2: Determine the flexibility level

For the main application use KR-8000/KR-8500 S1; for large formats or where higher movement is expected use KR-8100/KR-8600 + KR-8100-1 S2.

  3. Step 3: Lay the tiles with full contact

Use a trowel suited to the tile size; for large formats, apply adhesive to both surfaces (back-buttering) to ensure full contact behind the tile.

  4. Step 4: Complete the grout and movement details

Use KR-200 in dry areas, KR-250 in wet areas and KR-300 in technical areas or under high chemical loads; do not close movement joints with rigid grout.
